Christmas Challenge - Think Ahead, Plan and Enjoy a Merry, Festive Christmas.

Updated: Jun 25, 2022

Soooo…… December is upon us!!

If you have a copy of my Christmas 2021 Planner you will be feeling very smug if you are following the monthly countdowns!!!

Since September when we began thinking about Christmas by instigating a ‘Freezer Raid Meal Night’ to make sure there is room in the freezer for our Festive Fayre, we have been performing little tasks to get Christmas ready without the last minute stress!

But what if you are just beginning to think about Christmas now that December is here?

What are the things you need to start doing to be Christmas ready?

As with all my DOCC Blogs, where we are working towards an end result or goal, I recommend starting from your vision - of a great Christmas - and working back from there.

If your vision of a perfect Christmas involves decorating the inside and outside of your house, hosting and going to lots of events, making nativity outfits, buying the perfect presents, cooking a Turkey dinner and making sure everybody has a festive jumper to wear - then I can’t deny, you have your work cut out!

If you envisage a Christmas relaxing with a loved one in front of a log fire watching Christmas movies and eating mince pies for days - this is a bit easier to plan for!

Whatever you want your Christmas to look like, start with the big picture and then break it down into stages.

Eg. GOAL:

BREAKDOWN:

Seven steps to your Christmas. Now prioritise the steps you need to take in date order. What needs to be done first? Can some tasks be put together?

Contacting everybody involved and getting them onboard would be my first action and then booking the meal and putting it in everyone’s diary along with the Carol service

Work your way through your list, making sure everybody who needs to know anything is contacted and involved.

Do not worry if you forget something!! Christmas isn't Christmas without some sort of mishap!!

I remember the time we had planned on yorkshire puddings, only to find them burned to a cinder later in the day still in the oven!! There is pictorial evidence of this somewhere!.

So, start now, look at your end goal, work backwards, create a prioritised timeline and get started enjoying your Christmas - however it looks!
