2021 - New Year, New You? Or New Year, Keep Putting One Foot In Front Of The Other?

Updated: Jun 27, 2022

How often have you started a new year with the belief that this is the year you will become your best self only to give up trying and maybe even backslide by the time February rolls along?

I now understand the value of taking things one step at a time and not telling myself I am a failure and might as well give up when I don't exercise for weeks on end or if I eat so much that I cannot move after a meal.

This is the mindset needed when we start to look at decluttering and organising our homes and lives. It may take months even years for us to realise we need to declutter and that we may even need help to do it. But it wont happen quickly. With the help of a professional the space may seem to get organised in a short space of time, but you need to make a commitment to keep it that way after they have finished. And, if you decide to do the decluttering yourself , again you need to make a commitment to do a little every day to stop going back to how it was when you began.

You will have days when you just don't do anything to help with keeping your home clutterfree. You will have days when you bring stuff into your home that has no home, maybe no real use. But these days are not failures. They are just days when you didn't declutter or organise. That's it. You can continue tomorrow. You are not letting anybody down, you are going through a process which takes time and effort and some days you won't have the time and some days you wont want to expend the effort to do some decluttering or organising.

We need to show ourselves the kindness and patience we show other people who we can see trying to make an effort to change something about themselves. We need to give ourselves some grace and understanding that we are embarking on a journey that will take time, effort and determination, three things that are hard to come by but with repetition and by creating little habits and routines it is possible to be successful.

Over the next couple of months I am developing some new ideas for my website to help you through inspiration, fun activities and practical free cheat sheets and Little Helpers. I am excited to create these for you and as I add things to the site I will let you know here, on my Facebook page and on Instagram.
